What is a child theme?

A child theme is a theme that inherits all of the functionality and the styling of another theme – known as the parent theme. Child themes are the recommended method for modifying an existing theme as it leaves the parent theme untouched. Using a child theme also ensures that any modifications you’ve made won’t be overwritten when you install an update for the parent theme, which is exactly what would happen if you made your modifications directly to the parent theme.

We’ve provided a simple child theme for all of our themes. The link to download these can be found in the documentation sections under “Child Theme”.
